The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 received Royal Assent on 29 April 2026 and is now law.

Some provisions are already in force, others will begin in stages between June 2026 and September 2027. 

For parents and carers, the changes include exclusions, home education, admissions, breakfast clubs, school uniform, mobile phones, allergy safety duties.   See article below:

Schools, including academies will need to:

• review food provision and compliance with school food standards

• review mobile phone / device policies

• review uniform policies against the branded item cap

• prepare for changes to free school meal eligibility

• review behaviour policies in light of the off-site direction power (for academies)
